ERYX Eryx was a Short Range Anti-Armour Weapon (Heavy), known officially as SRAAW(H). This portable system included a firing post, tripod, Mirabel thermal imager and missile tube and was intended to provide an Infantry Section or the armoured reconnaissance assault troop with an improved capability in anti-tank protection. The weapon was fired from the shoulder or the tripod. Eryx was designed to penetrate armoured vehicles but also utilized a tandem high explosive warhead effective against bunkers and earth works, as well as armoured targets equipped with explosive reactive armour (ERA). Eryx could be used in all weather conditions, and in normal battlefield conditions of smoke and low visibility or night. Eryx began to be acquired in 1998 and 1999 as a replacement for the Carl Gustav but none were actually fielded by the end of the century. |
